Spinning Fibers Classes:

Intro to Spinning 1 and Intro to Spinning 2
Teacher: Joy Getha
1 - two hour session  $25
 
Intro to Spinning 1: Beginning spinner. Must have own wheel, or may purchase a drop spindle from me. Bring your wheel’s owner manual if you have one. In this class we'll cover: Spinning Equipment, Types of wheels, Parts of wheel, a little about fibers and how they are prepared for spinning. Drafting and spinning a single yarn.
 
Intro to Spinning 2: Novice spinner: Must have taken Spinning 1, or have instructor permission. Student must bring four filled bobbins, another bobbin’s worth rolled off into a ball, and a lazy kate. This lesson is all about plying!

I've Got a Fleece, Now What (free demonstration)
On July 4, we'll have a special demonstration called "I've got a fleece, now what?" We will meet the morning of the 4th, at 9 A.M.  Participants will not be charged a fee. They can bring a fleece if they have one, to be evaluated. We will skirt fleeces until we get too hot or tired to continue. Everyone attending and helping will receive at least a part of a fleece if they want it.  You will learn how to evaluate a fleece to see if it is sound enough to continue with the processing, or not; and we will skirt and "monkey groom" at least one fleece, perhaps several. You may bring sheep, llama, alpaca, or mohair fleeces.  We will NOT be washing or carding, but we will discuss these steps briefly.

Beginning Knit Class, (B)
This is the perfect class to get you started on your way to becoming a “yarn artist.”  You will learn the basics: casting-on, knit, and binding-off.   Not all yarns work together and we’ll help you choose the right materials to make your first (but not last) beautiful work-of-art scarf.  Great to give as gifts!
Materials: ); U.S.#  10, 10.5, 11, or 13 straight or 16” circular needles. 150 yards light colors, worsted weight yarn

Beginning Crochet Class
Crocheting is fun and fast and skills that are very useful for finishing knitting projects.  In this class you will learn the basics of crocheting: making a chain, single and double crochet, and finishing off.
Materials needed: size G, H or I crochet hook and 1 (200 yard) ball plain worsted weight yarn, light colors preferred.

French Market Bag (Advance Beginner) Model in store. This class will teach you to make a cotton string bag perfect for those short trips to the store or to the beach.  Not only will you have a great bag, but you will be helping the environment too.  This bag looks small but stretches to hold a lot.  As economical as it is you can make a few for yourself and maybe some for friends. Skills learned:  Gigantic Button Hole, Creating a Hem, Simple Repetitive Openwork Pattern (lace) increasing/ decreasing, Three Needle Bind Off. Homework to be done before class.  With Size 6 needles cast on 140 stitches using Cable Cast on, place marker and join being careful not to twist.  Knit 10 Rounds.
Materials:  1 hank Butterfly cotton, size 6, 24" circular needle, size 11, 24" circular needle, 1 extra needle for 3 needle bind off.

Basic Felt Bag, (B+) The best beginner knit “basic” felt bag. If you have knit scarves and want to learn new skills you can knit this. We will assist students with selecting the right materials for their purse and learn all construction methods while making your choice of the small, medium, or large bag. Beware! You’ll be stopped wherever you take this bag. Tell them to go to YarnArts and we’ll teach them how to make one of their own. Materials: US 13, circular 24” in length & US 13 double point needles. Three skeins 100% wool yarn. 2 strands Worsted or 1 strand bulky. Embellishments choose a little or a lot. We can help you choose the right combinations of yarns (not all yarns felt well). HOMEWORK REQUIRED before first class!

Felt Clogs or Felt Alpine Boot Slippers, (Advanced Beginner)
Everyone loves these comfy felt slippers or boots! They look fun and feel so warm and cozy. Knit with double strand worsted or single strand bulky yarn. Designed to be felt as a very thick, firm fabric, these boot slippers will keep feet warm and cozy. High top version is great for after ski wear while the low top version makes a good everyday slipper.  Both have double soles for extra comfort and longer wear.  Everyone in your family will want a pair too when they see yours!  Start them now for Christmas gifts!
Materials: US# 13, 24” needles, 3 skeins wool (bulky or 2 strands worsted). Fiber Trends Pattern

Felted Hat Class, (B+) Felt hats knit or crochet up fast and easy and is the perfect accessory for Colorado’s cold weather.  These hats are soft and warm and can be made with a wide or narrow brim.  Choose yarn colors of your favorite sports team.  Perfect to wear to a BRONCOS game! Models in store.
Materials:  US 11 & 13, 24” circular needles, depending on size, 2-3 skein worsted weight wool. Fiber Trends Pattern.

Knitting with Beads (B+) (knitting and purling)
This class teaches how to bead while knitting.  Learn how to place beads, and how to create a simple bead pattern.  I-cord will also be covered.  Participants will make a beaded cell phone/ mini purse during class.
Materials: 200 glass "E" beads (also called 6/0 beads) from a beading store. (Not Michaels/Hobby Lobby/Walmart as the beads are not uniform internal size for placing on yarn).  25 grams worsted weight yarn.

Neck-down Childs Cardigan (Advanced Beginner) Here’s your chance to improve your knitting skills and knit an easy sweater with raglan sleeves for a special child!  Hanny will teach how to knit this adorable cardigan sweater starting from the neck down.  This class will require several sessions and the dates will be determined at the first class.
Materials: Store model was knit with Berroco Comfort.  We will help you determine the amount of yarn depending on size.  Needles US # 8 or 9, 24” circular.   Gauge swatch will be done in first class.

Toe-Up Magic Loop Socks- (Advanced Beginner)
Add a toe up sock pattern with a short row heel to your knitting experience. This class will show you how to cast on, toe increases, a short row heel and stretchy bind off using the Magic Loop method. During the two-hour class we will make one small sock so that we can go from toe to cuff in one class before we get you casting on a full size pair for yourself! We'll also cover how you can use these techniques to knit TWO, yes TWO!, socks at the same time on the Magic Loop.
Materials: 40" needle in US size # 1, 2, 3, or 4, which work well with traditional sock weight yarn you will need 100g of sock yarn for socks for yourself. A worsted weight or DK weight for "house socks" is best with a US 4 or 5 needle and you will need approximately 200 yards. Please bring a small ball of worsted weight yarn to class to make your small sample sock.
